Watches - An Ever Evolving Timepiece

Watches are timeless accessories that never age, especially with so many options for designer watches, women's and men's jewelry. Watches are among the most timeless artifacts ever created. The history of timepieces has seen incredible changes, from heavy-set wooden grandfather clocks to delicate diamond watches. Android Smart Watches For Men

From their earlier, larger, spring-driven clocks that first appeared in Europe in the 15th century, the first watches were created. According to legend, the word "watch" comes from an Old English word called "woecce", which loosely translates as "watchman". Truth is, watches were invented in order to aid watchmen in keeping track of their shifts.

Watches were originally a practical, pocket-knack for men. However, wrist watches weren't elevated to the status of "wristwatch" until the 1920s. Watches were often covered and carried in the pocket of their owner or attached to a watchchain. A pocket watch, as a gentleman's accessory was the symbol of time and a sign that the man was serious about his life. The pocket watch was transformed into a wristwatch for women in the 1920's, when equality between men and woman became a controversial topic of interest. Men who were pocket watch bearers reacted to the idea and said they would rather wear a skirt than a wristwatch.

However, luck was about to change when World War 1 forced soldiers on the battlefield to use a more practical method of "checking" the time than digging through their pockets to find their watch. In an effort to save time, soldiers began to attach their pocket watches to their wrists using leather straps. Legend has it that the German Imperial Navy strapped their pocket watches to soldiers' wrists with leather straps in an effort to "save time" during the 1880s, while synchronizing naval strikes and firing artillery.

Watches went from being practical to fashionable in the 1950s. It reached its peak during the 1980s, when Hip Hop revolutionized the music industry and fashion. Buddy Holly, a rock-n-roll icon, was the first to wear a 14-karat white-gold Omega watch with 45 single-cut diamonds. This is one of the most memorable stories of the early days men's diamond watches. The news was received by fans with mixed emotions. They were shocked at the loss of their idol and they also felt awed at his lavish lifestyle. Fans were in a frenzy trying to emulate their idol's fashion taste. The Omega watch quickly became the most popular men's diamond watch ever made.

Hip Hop brought about a dramatic change in jeweler and fashion culture. Diamond watches, diamond pendants and gold chains were essential items to create iconic "bling". Watches are no longer a practical accessory. They have become a status symbol and a symbol for wealth. Officially, diamond watches have evolved to be affordable, fashionable, and practical for both men and women.
